On September 19, Daniel Lou, Co-founder of Sushui Tech, was invited to attend the "Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur" forum in Malaysia as a member of CBASS and delivered a speech during the urban governance panel discussion. Together with several guests, he explored the innovative applications of Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) in smart cities.

With the surge in edge computing devices, traditional solar-plus-battery solutions have struggled to meet the continuous power supply demands of urban terminal sensing equipment. Daniel pointed out that DMFCs can truly achieve off-grid, decentralized energy supply, empowering communities to independently generate and store electricity, significantly enhancing the reliability and autonomy of urban sensing networks.
He emphasized that Sushui Tech offers not just a technological solution but also a development path that synergizes sustainability and economic benefits—"green energy can also be economically viable." DMFC systems offer advantages such as low maintenance costs, high energy density, and round-the-clock power supply. Methanol fuel is convenient to replenish, greatly reducing maintenance frequency and battery replacement costs. These economic advantages make large-scale, sustainable deployment possible, driving technology adoption and further innovation to form a virtuous cycle.
By adopting clean and efficient DMFC technology, cities can reduce their reliance on external power grids and traditional fossil fuel consumption, thereby lowering carbon emissions and aligning with global ESG goals. This green attribute not only brings potential benefits such as carbon credits but also enhances the city’s brand image and attracts green investments.

Sushui Tech will continue to advance the research, development, and implementation of methanol fuel cell technology, providing more efficient and reliable energy solutions for global smart city development.

CBASS was founded in 2021 by founders who believe that only through a circular economy can we achieve shared prosperity and create a livable world. The association aims to leverage commercial means to amplify the influence of sustainable development principles, striving to prevent future generations from being trapped in a harsh climate where extreme weather, diseases, and food and water insecurity become the norm. To this end, it has united enterprises and organizations from around the world that share this vision to jointly build a profitable circular economy ecosystem.
Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur (SCEKL) is the Southeast Asian edition of the world’s leading urban innovation event, Smart City Expo World Congress by Fira Barcelona.
Southeast Asia’s digital landscape is changing quickly, with cities leading this change. Themed “AI Cities: Shaping Our Digital Future”, Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 marks a historic milestone as the first edition of the Expo in the region.
